Hi Matt,
This is in response to your review. I was surprised to hear that you had such a bad impression of our office on your complimentary first visit. It's certainly not the impression we try to give our patients and I thank you for the feedback about the staff. We have already corrected a lot of what bothered you about that visit. We give a tour of the facility to all new patients and interview them about their concerns, because it makes them feel a little more comfortable when they are seated in the clinical area for their exam. This can be scary for many patients, and we find that seeing the whole facility ahead of time puts them at ease.
As for your reaction to my clinical findings in your mouth, I can only say that I may have failed to fully educate you on the possible seriousness of conditions in your mouth, and if that is the case, I sincerely apologize for that.
If I was money hungry as you portrayed me in your review, it would certainly have been easier for me to ignore other serious conditions and place veneers on your teeth - to just collect money. Ethically, I cannot do that - I know it is hard for patients to hear that they may have some serious conditions going on in their mouths and that it is necessary and even urgent to treat these conditions so they don't become even more severe. Veneers cannot be placed on decayed teeth, or when the tooth structure is compromised beyond a certain point.
This may be where you misunderstood, stating that I would decide whether you could have veneers or not. Sometimes it's just not feasible with what we have to work with after decay removal and root canal treatment, and we have to go to full crown coverage instead of veneers in certain situations on certain teeth.
In any event, I am sorry for the misunderstanding, and I am not a dictator who tells people spend this much, and then I’ll decide whether you can have what you want. That is just not my style at all. My primary concern with all patients first and foremost is their well-being, and bringing their mouth to a healthy state.
I would sincerely like to invite you to come back in to our office for another complimentary visit, and I will spend as much time as you need to better explain to you what is going on with your oral health. We can certainly focus on the cosmetics only, if that is your wish, as long as the teeth involved are brought to a state of being decay free. We just will have to make you aware that you may have pain and complications from other untreated teeth, if you choose this route.

Went in for an appointment for top-front veneers and was ultimately told by the dentist that I would need close to $5k worth of other work done to my entire mouth before he would even consider it. I'm not kidding, Dr Dietrich actually said that even if I had all the work done, he would be the one making the decision whether or not I'm allowed to get veneers. Taking into account that I was the one paying, I thought that I'd be able to dictate exactly what I was wanting them to do short of it not being safe for my health. I was incorrect. Dr Dietrich will TELL you what he's willing and not willing to do. Your opinion/wants mean nothing. As for the office visit... I'm sure that some people appreciate the first time customer gift bag and the "tour" of the facility, but that's not what I went there for and it was horrid. The tour, jokes and general back and forth conversation seemed like they were rehearsed at nauseum by the staff. After the x-rays, I was lead into their office where they had issues calculating the repair appraisal and had to edit several prices on their procedures after calling around on their walkie-talkies to various other staff members. This took awhile. It was annoying. I wanted to leave. This was quickly followed by the push to apply for financial assistance via one of their loan partners. There was an issue with getting the cost of my consultation correct upon leaving. It seemed that the front office staff didn't know if I qualified for the 'special' consultation rate (which I did). Lastly, one of the front office staff came very close to bad-mouthing another local dentist after I mentioned his name. Rehearsed sales pitch. Dentist unwilling to do what the customer wants and follows his own set of 'rules' that seem motivated by getting the most money out of the customer. Both the staff and doctor are most certainly found wanting.
