Plaka on Ft. Myers Beach truly serves the finest Greek Food I and my dining partners have found in Lee County so far!  Plaka is located on the lovely Times Square area on Ft. Myers Beach, with both inside dining and patio dining.  We opted to dine inside the restaurant, which I will add is open to the outside but under the roof of the restaurant.  Now one may think that it would be too hot to eat in such an environment, but with the fan system they have, none of us felt any discomfort at all.  It was actually quite pleasurable from start to finish!

We arrived at the restaurant around 6pm.  When we walked in we had a warm and friendly greeting from staff that invited us to sit at any table or booth, inside or out.  We opted for inside next to a window.  We were quickly visited by our server who gave us a few minutes to look over their lavish menu which includes Authentic Greek Food, American Favorites and Fresh Seafood that includes traditional American Dishes and Greek Dishes.  At that point we placed our drink orders, with two of us getting a bloody Mary and the other getting a glass or Merlot Wine.  A short time later our drinks arrived, which were very refreshing to say the least.  We then placed our order.  I ordered the Gyro Platter as did one of my dining partners.  The second dining partner ordered the Filet of Fish a la Plaka.  As we enjoyed our drinks, it gave us a chance to look around the establishment.  The inside was about half full and all the patrons truly seemed to be enjoying themselves.  The outside had not had any diners utilize their patio seating section but that would change as our evening went on, as that section did fill up as the sun was setting.  The patio area truly is a beautiful area to sit and enjoy the beach.  We were having a delightful time when our Greek Salads arrived.  If I were to dream up a Greek Salad, this would have been it!  The dressing was subtle, yet made the salad!  No lack of feta cheese and to ensure it was a true Greek Salad, Greek Peppers and Greek Olives were added.  The menu said the Greek Salads were small.  I for one truly appreciate their idea of a small salad!  I have a hearty appetite and Plaka never disappointed me when it came to their generous portions!  As we were finishing our amazing “small” Greek Salads, our entrees arrived.  No need to worry, the portions are generous!  All of eyes were truly happy as we looked at our platters, each looked amazingly delicious and very full!  It wasn’t long before we felt we were sitting in an establishment right in the heart of Greece!  The flavors were just amazing!  Never before have I had lamb that was prepared to pure perfection and the tzatziki sauce was simply heavenly to say the least!  A lot of love went into the preparation of these Gyro Platters!  The Filet of Fish a la Plaka was indeed generous!  The fish was succulent, flaked apart, with a flavor that truly made it a definite hit with my second dining partner.  The Filet of Fish a la Plaka is a fresh fish filet sautéed in a scampi butter red sauce with onions, fresh tomatoes, celery and green peppers.  As good as it sounds, it was indeed better.  As far as the Gyros, the portion of mouth watering lamb was so generous as it was lovingly stacked on the pita bread that both myself and my first dining partner had to eat this delight with a knife and fork.  No worries, it was simply delicious from the first bite to the last plate licking bite, we for me any ways.  My first dining partner had to ask for a box to bring theirs’ home and I’m sure it was enjoyed as a midnight snack!  All of our food was well worth the trip to Ft. Myers Beach and we will travel again to the beach to enjoy their food again!

As stated, the menu of Plaka has all the Greek Favorites, from Gyros to Souvlaki to Moussaka to Roast Lamb.  Plaka has traditional American fare from, Hamburgers to BLT’s to New York Strip to Chicken Tenders.  Plaka has a Seafood menu that includes such favorites as Shrimp a la Plaka to Fried Shrimp/Oysters/Clams to a full Fried Fisherman’s Platter that includes fish, shrimp, scallops and oysters.  So no matter what you are craving, Plaka is sure to have something to satisfy your appetite.  Their prices range from $5.00 to $8.75 for Sandwiches, $12.75 for Greek Platters, $11.95 to $16.95 for their Entrees, $11.75 to $16.00 for the Seafood Menu Items.  And for the generous portions you receive, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck at this beach favorite restaurant.  They do serve Beer and Wine that are appropriately priced for an establishment that is on the beach.  $2.25 for draft beer, $7.50 for a pitcher of beer and Bottles (Premium and Imported) ranging from $3.95 to $4.50.  Wines range from $4.50 a glass to ½ a Carafe for $11.00 and a full Carafe for $21.00 for Domestic Wines and Greek Wines from a glass for $4.95 and a Bottle for $22.00.  Very reasonable prices for a great restaurant on Ft. Myers Beach.  They are open for both Lunch and Dinner.

Whether you are already on Ft. Myers Beach or looking for some place different to go, be sure and give Plaka a try!  They are well worth the drive as their food is the best Greek Food you will find in SW Florida!  As they say at Plaka……….”YA ‘SOU!”
