If you are looking for a great Breakfast and/or Lunch spot, look no further than Sunny’s in the Island Park Plaza! Quaint atmosphere, very clean, warm and friendly staff and food that will make you feel like your mom is in the kitchen making it for you!
My dinning partners and myself arrived shortly before 9am, the dining room had already seen the morning rush allowing us to have any seat the dining room had. Sunny’s has approximately 20 seating areas within the dining room, with a mix of booths and tables. All seating areas have ample room so you don’t feel as though you are on top of folks sitting around you and they have a generous counter seating area for the single diner. No matter where you decide to sit you will have a warm and welcoming feel to your dining experience! As we walked in we were happily greeted by Dell, our server for our breakfast experience. Inviting us to sit any place we desired, Dell quickly took our drink order and our drinks were on the table within a few minutes. Reviewing the breakfast special with us, Dell then gave us time to look over their ample menu. Traditional items such as beacon and eggs, waffles, hotcakes and biscuits & gravy to the not so traditional items such as Pesto Toast, Eggs Florentine and a variety of Oatmeal selections or yogurts & Fruit Plate. My dining partners and myself were all feeling an omelet. My first dining partner went with a build your own omelet with mushrooms, beacon and cheese, selecting the home fried potatoes rather than the fresh fruit cup (either one or grits included with the omelets as well as toast selection). My second dining partner order a ham and sausage omelet with no cheese selecting the fresh fruit cup. I ordered the ham and cheese omelet with the fresh fruit cup as well.,, with a side of Pancakes. I want to note at this point that all orders are cooked to order with the freshest of ingredients! We did not find the wait time for our breakfast to arrive that different from the larger chain restaurants that we have been to in the area. The coffee was flowing very nicely, meaning our cups never went cold or dry as Dell was very attentive! Dining partner number two had “Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice” and yes it definitely was fresh squeezed! My second dining partner is very picky when it comes to what they eat or drink and not easy to please. They were very pleased with the juice, impressed really as most places will fresh squeeze from a container and they could tell this was fresh squeezed from an orange! Within 10 minutes our breakfast had arrived. They say you eat with your eyes first, and our eyes definitely had a wonderful meal! Think back to when mom used to make you an omelet on weekend mornings, nice and thick, fluffy and flavorful with more than just a sprinkle of items inside the omelet. The potatoes where seasoned perfectly with the skins on them, looking wonderfully delicious and the fruit cups were with “freshly cut up fruit” that was simply better than any fruit cups any of us have had anyplace else! The pancakes were moderately sized, light and fluffy and had the taste and texture of what grandma would make on Saturday mornings! Dell even took the time to warm the syrup prior to bringing it to the table. Little things like that make all the difference in the world! Now I will say that my second dining partner had ordered their omelet without cheese, but when it arrived it did have cheese on it. Bringing this to Dell’s attention, it was quickly corrected and within three minutes a newly prepared omelet with just ham and sausage had arrived at the table and my second dining partner was quickly more than satisfied with the results of his corrected omelet, and again I tell you this one is hard to please! So when they are happy, I know things are good!! This one ended up eating more than half my fruit cup as good fresh fruit is their thing, and is not found all too often when they dine out, so when we found good fresh fruit, this one found most of it, again telling all of us that Sunny’s is the real deal when it comes to good home cooked food.
Once we had finished our breakfast, we had a chance to compare notes. I had commented on the fact that I was full and it was a good full feeling. My first dining partner agreed and added that the owner/cook (Debra) must really love what she does as it truly comes out in the flavor of the meals. My second dining partner, the one that can find fault at the drop of a hat, was quite content and didn’t look at the omelet mistake as a mistake at all, but more as great customer service as they had a problem and within three minutes was corrected and corrected with an apology and a smile and that omelet was “plate licking good”! We all agreed that Sunny’s was just like sitting in Mom’s Kitchen eating home cooked food at great prices. Breakfast prices range from $5 to $9 for the more unusual items. Kids menu prices range from $3 to $4. The price is an absolutely great value for the quality of the meals!
I need to note that all major credit cards as well as cash are accepted. Further, it is asked within the menu to “inform your server of any allergies or dietary restrictions”, again showing the care that the staff places with the food they serve!
Sunny’s is a mere 3 miles south from the Perkins on the corner of Six Mile Cypress and 41. Let me tell you, Sunny’s is definitely worth that short drive to the Island Park Plaza for some fantastic home cooking and good old fashion warm and welcoming service. Take the extra few minutes to give Sunny’s a try, you most definitely will be glad you did. The hours of operation for Sunny’s are 6:30am to 2:30pm. As we were driving away from Sunny’s we were all talking about what we would be having for Lunch from Sunny’s and trying to figure out when all our schedules would work for us to try their Lunch menu!
A great way to ensure you will have a sunny day when you begin your day with Sunny’s!!!
